EBO 'Rude Awakening' Peak Energy Tour, 2008

Anyhow, we're planning a new UK tour that, unlike last year's tour, will run for the whole year. We thought we'd call it "Rude Awakning" (given the rise in fuel and food prices -- the first sign most people are getting that we're approaching the capacity of the global system to deliver our needs). There's a PDF file attached with the full details (you can also download a copy from http://www.fraw.org.uk/download/ebo/rude_awakening_tour.pdf).

The dates we're proposing at the moment are:
Leg 1 – Tuesday 6th to Friday 16th May;
Leg 2 – Tuesday 3rd to Tuesday 17th June;
Leg 3 – Monday 30th June to Monday 14th July;
Leg 4 – Monday 8th to Tuesday 23rd Sept.; and
Leg 5 – Monday 6th to Thursday 16th October.

We're asking people to nominate TWO legs when they request to host an event, and state which day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) is best for you. We'll then work out all the permutations to come up with a draft programme in late March/early April. Note also, if the only date you can do is outside of the offial 'leg' dates, we'll consider it, but we'd refer not to do this as it makes resolving the other pressures on our lives (like working!) more difficult. As with last year, we're offering the same three types of event:# Energy Beyond Oil ('EBO') -- our introduction to energy and peak oil/peak energy;# Less is a Four Letter Word ('Less') -- examining how individuals use energy and the need/options to cut consumption; and# Energy and Climate ('E&C') -- the links between energy use and climate change, and why climate change and peak oil are the same, inseparable problem.

If you hosted an EBO or E&C event last year you might like to host a Less event this year. However, in the late Summer well be finishing up a new presentation, "Energy and Food", so if you previouly hosted a Less event this would ne he natural next step. "Energy and Food" concentrates on the importance of food, nutrition and agriculture to both energy consumption and climate change, and how we can significantly reduce the impacts of both by changing the way we source, store, prepare and eat food. We're not proposing to host any food workshops until the Sepember and October legs (and perhaps November/December, when we have a beter idea of what we're doing before then!). We're also happy just to bring our projection gear and show films/give a very short talk, but we will haveto work out the costs/format of the events carefully to avoid problems due to copyright (we have an extensive film library we can bring -- if you specify what type of film you're looking for we can tell you what we've got). Another big change is that this year we're asking for a £10 booking fee when we've confirmed the date. This is because last year we didn't quite cover the expenses of the tour (we were about £40 down on a £1,350 turnover). Mostly this was due to the costs of leaflets, which we gave away for a "donation" (and a lot of people didn't), and because a number of the groups involved couldn't stump-up the full travel costs and we forgave all or part of the price of the ticket. So, interested? If so, read the attached PDF. Then email us with the two legs you'd like to organise an event or, and which day of the week is best for you. Peace 'n' love The Free Range Energy Beyond Oil Project.
